Orange is the New Black - Piper Kerman
July 3rd 2010 12:50
I picked up the copyright 2010 hardback (non-fiction title) at the public library
Piper graduates from college and instead of moving away from her familiar college town and getting a steady job like the majority of her classmates, she hooks up with a woman she finds incredibly interesting and makes the mistake of going along for the ride as a runner for an international drug ring. Ten year later, with that part of her life put entirely behind her, it comes back to haunt her. Pleading guilty, she is sentenced to 15 months in a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut.
I liked it! She really set the stage, you could picture everything she described with no problem whatsoever. I never felt like I had a bad prison movie playing in my head, I never felt preached to, I felt the strange comfortableness of the familiar and the boredom of repetition and yet, it was always interesting.
